Matt Oldenburg
Assistant Director & General Manager

Matt Oldenburg is the Assistant Director & General Manager of Zoosiana.  Though formally in this position only since 2008, Matt’s commitment to the zoo started the day George announced his career change.  In 2002, at 14 years of age, Matt accompanied his father to the zoo on weekends and other school breaks and garnered hard working experience in every aspect of the zoo’s operations.

Matt’s vision has been to put animals and guests first, create rewarding experiences for everyone, and professionalize Zoosiana as a strong member of the zoological industry.

Matt believes in staying actively engaged with the local community.  A 2012 graduate of the Leadership Lafayette program, Class XXV, he now sits on the Board of Directors for the Leadership Institute of Acadiana.  Matt is a regular featured speaker for various civic organizations, including the Leadership Institute of Acadiana, local chapters of the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club, Stuller Family Foundation, and others.

As a 2010 graduate of Tulane University, Matt blends his academic disciplines of marketing and biology together for the betterment and advancement of the zoo.

Matt is a Professional Member in the Zoological Association of America (ZAA).  In 2010, the membership elected him to the Board of Directors and, in 2012, the Board appointed him to the Office of Secretary.  Matt is a founding member of the organization’s Code of Conduct & Ethics Committee and has experience on other committees, including Accreditation as current Interim Chairman and as a facility inspector and Conference as a member and as 2010 Chairman.  Matt lives in Lafayette and can be seen nearly daily at the zoo.
