Friends of the Zoo of Acadiana

Friends of the Zoo of Acadiana is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization that sponsors and supports the Zoo of Acadiana, LLC.  Through special events, donations, and grants, Friends raises money that is used throughout the Zoo for new animals, new exhibits, attractions, and exhibit enhancements.  All donations and sponsorships made to the Zoo and/or for these special events are made through Friends of the Zoo and are tax deductible. 

Animals and exhibits can be donated in company or individual names and will be noted by signs at the appropriate area.  Several grand developements have been made possible at the Zoo through Friends of the Zoo, such as our White Tiger Habitat and Jungle Lodge Playground.

Special Events
The special events hosted by Friends include Zoolebrate, EggstravaganZooBoo at the Zoo, and Safari of Lights!
Jungle Lodge Playground debuted in 2008 from foundation grants and other contributions.

The Zootorium is being unveiled in Spring of 2012 as an educational and entertaining learning hub as a result of foundation grants.
Mission Statement
The Friends of the Zoo of Acadiana, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of a non-paid board of directors.  The corporation was established in 1994 with the primary mission of providing assistance to the Zoo of Acadiana in increasing the educational value of zoo attractions, acquiring new animals, maintaining and expanding animal exhibits and helping conservation efforts for the world’s various species of animals.  The three main goals of the Friends of the Zoo of Acadiana, Inc. are to provide resources:
  • that promote, affect and assist the education efforts of our community’s education agencies through the development of creative educational opportunities that utilize the Zoo of Acadiana’s animals to increase student engagement and content relevancy.
  • that provides zoo visitors with an inviting, congenial and educational zoo environment in which they may see, enjoy, and learn about the conservation of our planet’s animals.
  • that provides frequent and consistent professional development to all zoo staff to ensure the highest level of professional excellence in caring for, and educating the public about, the Zoo of Acadiana’s animals.
